Hawai`i is unlike anywhere else in the world, but in business communications, what’s true elsewhere is true here, too:
Experience is
the difference.
Doug Carlson's professional background includes 35 years working in and with Hawai`i's news media, arguably the broadest media experience in the Aloha State.
He passes on lessons learned over those years in his programs
and seminars, including media training and the 3-in-1 Communications Seminar
with three essential must-know topics for supervisors. Doug's service with Hawaiian Electric Company
and his familiarity with
power generation issues equip him to consult on public affairs for
the emerging renewable energy industry. His newest web log -- Hawaii Energy Options -- offers straight talk about Hawai`i's most promising renewable energy option: Ocean Thermal Energy Converstion (OTEC).
"Me and Him Are Killing English!" Doug's
new book went into Hawai`i bookstores in July '07 and is in nationwide
distribution at Amazon.com and major bookstores. The book's
cautionary message for career-minded young adults: Leaders in business, education and the professions don't abuse English, as many of you routinely do. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin carried an excerpt in 2007, and columnist Charles Memminger added his "lite" touch more recently. For additional information, visit Doug's website for the book.... Doug created his "CHORE"
blog to recommend emergency communications improvements following the
October 15, 2006 Hawai`i earthquakes. Another of his blogs -- Tsunami Lessons
-- was started to support the use of the international news media to
disseminate tsunami warnings. That wasn't the case after the
devasting Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, when hundreds of
thousands of people died after existing communications channels failed
to warn them of their peril.
